Pleasant Eugene Holt was the only known son of James Holt and Harriet Juhan Holt. He was born and grew up in Gwinnett County, Georgia (where he is located in both the 1860 and 1870 census records). Pleasant had two half-brothers, Richard Daniel Bordeaux Holt and William S Holt, the offspring of his mother and her first husband, William Holt (James's older brother). Pleasant also had several sisters.

Growing up in the south during these years must have been extremely difficult. As a young boy Pleasant would have lived through the Civil War and post-war reconstruction period. Pleasant's father and several other relatives fought during the war. Gwinnett County is very near to Atlanta, so no doubt there were especially fearful times in 1864 during Sherman's March to the Sea.

Pleasant married Prudice Lavinia Humphries (Viney as she was called) on 8 Jul 1877 at her home in Campbell County, Georgia. The young couple lived for a time in Gwinnett County near Pleasant's numerous relatives where they are found in the 1880 census. Pleasant lists his occupation as farmer.

By the 1900 census Pleasant had moved his growing family to Paulding County, Georgia, where Pleasant again lists his occupation as farmer.

Tragically, after becoming the town marshall for nearby Villa Rica, Georgia, Pleasant was killed in the line of duty, shot to death by a young drunken man he was trying to talk into surrendering.

The town of Villa Rica officially recognized/honored him for his sacrifice on "Plez Holt Day", April 18, 1998.
