Gloria M. Durocher

Gloria M. Durocher, formerly of Edmonds, WA, passed away Friday, May 11, 2007. The third child of Claire and Emma Laflam, she was born in Wisconsin in 1924. Gloria and her family left in 1934 for Alaska's Matanuska Valley, under Roosevelt's New Deal. Eventually the family settled in Seattle, with Gloria graduating from Ballard high School, class of "42". She married Robert E. Durocher that same year, spending 56 years together, until his passing in 1998. Gloria mastered the art of blending child raising and career while employed with Standard Oil and Washington State Labor Council. We always knew family came first!

She was active in garden club, and avid reader, nature lover, and past member of Our Lady of Fatima and Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Gloria and Bob's home was always open to family and friends. Whether in Edmonds or Twisp, where they moved after retirement, their doors were always open to share a wonderful meal, a story or a smile.

Survivors include son, Larry and wife Beverly; daughter, Louise Mallow and husband Charles, all of Langley, WA; five grandchildren, Patrick Durocher and wife Amy, Erik Durocher, Daniel Smith and wife Heather, and Michael Smith and wife Windy, and Jacob Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Amaritta, Franklin, Luca and Emma.

Even as her health failed over the years, she was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be in our hearts always. A heart felt thank you to the caregivers of Country Glen in Lynnwood and Evergreen Hospice. Private interment at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline, Arrangements: Beck's funeral Home, Edmonds, 425-771-1234
