Mary Quimby was born circa 1745 to Eleazer Quimby (b. 1719) and Anne Lassitor (b. 1722) , in Bertie County, Province of North Carolina.
About 1760, Mary married to Isaac Sowell, also of North Carolina, and son of of Obediah Sowell (1717-1802) and Mary Raynor (1720-1738). They had at least nine children: John, Margaret, Ann, Dempsey, Isaac, Winniford, William, Asa and Jesse.
A cenotaph was erected for her in Carthage, Moore County, NC - located at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. This cemetery also contains a cenotaph for her husband, Isaac.
