Married Sarah Jane Meekins 14 Sept 1852 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. "She never tired of telling the story of how she met her husband...she read in some paper or magazine an article with the offer that, if one would send in a glove, the sender would receive a description of the person he or she would marry. Sarah Jane sent her glove and received a reply that her future husband would come to a public gathering and she would recognize him because he would be riding a white horse. In a short time, Sarah Jane was attending a church outing when a handsome young man rode up on a beautiful white horse. This was John Croson McKinnon and he and Sarah Jane were soon married. Moses Meekins (her father) was already planning to move his family to Texas and it was understood before the wedding that the McKinnons would accompany them." - from "Footprints" by Evelyn Bergman Evans of Texas. Per Mrs. Evans, Sarah is buried in the Moscow Cemetery. Sarah, 29 March 1834 - 18 Sep 1919, was the second daughter of Moses and Lucy Meekins whose graves are in the Meekins Cemetery in Moscow.
