Funeral services for S-Sgt Curtis M. Muse, son of Mrs. Mattie Cherry Muse, of Washington, D. C., and the late Curtis M. Muse of Carthage, were held in the Presbyterian Church in Carthage Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Francis M. Osborne, associate rector of Trinity Church in Pittsburgh, Pa., assisted by the Rev. W. S. Golden, pastor of the Carthage Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. John Cline, pastor of the Carthage Methodist Church. Sergeant Muse was flight engineer on a B-26 bomber in the Army Air Forces. He was killed in a plane crash in England on May 29, 1943 and was temporarily interred in Brockwood cemetery near London. He was born in Carthage May 13. 1909. He received his elementary education in the public schools of Carthage and completed his high school work at St. Nicholas School in Raleigh, later attending the University of North Carolina. He was head bookkeeper at Wachovia Bank in Raleigh for several years. At the time he entered military serv- ice he was connected with City Bank in Washington, D. C. Burial was in Cross Hill Cemetery in Carthage, which is located on the ancestral property of his father's S family. Surviving are his mother Mrs. Mattie Cherry Muse, Washing-ton, D. C.; two sisters, Mrs. E. Piper Weathersbee, Los Angeles, Calif. and Mrs. Doyle Miller, Carthage; one aunt, and one uncle.
