Lawrence Bernstein Goldsmith Jr.

Lawrence Bernstein Goldsmith Jr., 86, of Huntsville died Saturday at his residence. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Rabbi Steven L. Jacobs officiating and Dr. Thomas W. Jones of Birmingham delivering the eulogy.

Mr. Goldsmith was a descendant of the Bernstein, Herstein, Schiffman and Goldsmith families, all early settlers of Huntsville. He was the son of the late Annie Schiffman and Lawrence B. Goldsmith Sr.

Since 1933 he had been associated with I. Schiffman and Co., an investment firm established by his grandfather Issac Schiffman. He has served as president of the company since 1972.

He attended Wills Taylor School in Huntsville, Webb Preparatory School in Bell Buckle, Tenn., and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Shelton Goldsmith; a daughter, Margaret Anne Hanaw of New Orleans; and three grandchildren.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Goldsmith Endowment Fund of Temple B'Nai Sholom, 103 Lincoln St. 35801.
