Dexter Houston Hammett, 57, died at his residence, 201 Marylanbd Ave., Honea Path at 5:15 p.m. Thursday following a sudden illness.

Mr. Hammett was a native of Commerce, Ga., a son of the late Willie Dexter Hammett and Jessie Adams Hammett. He had made his home in Honea Path for the past 45 years. He was a member of the Chiquola Methodist church and was a textile employee.

Survivors: his step mother, Mrs. Cleo Hammett of Honea Path; three brothers, Wofford and Coleman Hammett, both of Honea Path; Norman Hammett of Montgomery, Ala.; one half- brother, Winford Hammett of Vietnam; six half-sisters, Mrs. Van Murdock and Mrs. Jack Murdock both of Honea Path, Mrs. Ethel Moore and Mrs. Lucille Bollinger bother of Greenwood; Mrs. Clara Finley of Ware Shoals, Mrs. Mary Evans Pelzer.

Funeral plans will be announced by Pruitt Funeral Home.
