Born April 9, 1949 in Buncombe County, NC, he was the son of the late Velma Gaddy Cox Chatham.
He is also preceded in death by stepson, Kevin Dale Furr.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Cox of the home; Daughter-Amy Lynn Solesbee and husband Bill of Asheville, N.C.; Daughter-Sherie Lynnette Reynolds and husband Tim of White Bluff, Tenn.; Step daughter-Crystal Lynn Wetter and husband Chad of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; Step son-Alex Eugene Furr of Millingport, N.C.; Sister-Bobby Lou Kee and husband Wayne of Asheville, N.C.; Father-Henry Albert Chatham of Asheville, NC
Grandchildren- William and Peyton Solesbee, Savannah and Dalton Reynolds, Brittney and Autumn LaBroad and Tyler Wetter; Niece-Wendy Rice, husband Roy, and their children, Autumn and Owen
His loyal canine friend, Foxie
Cox was employed by Builders First Source and was a member of Open Arms Ministry, Concord. He served as a deacon of his church and was an active member. Clayton was a very strong Christian. He always shared his dedicated faith and testified to others until his final days. He loved Gospel music and singing for the Lord.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing.
The family will be meeting at the home.
Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home - Concord, PO Box 367, Concord, N.C., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, April 9, 2009.
Funeral service will be at Rocky River Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM Friday, April 10, 2009 , Rev. Kyle Hite, Rev. Ronnie Rogers and Rev. Bob Greene officiating.
Interment will be at Rocky River Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Concord, N.C.
