Lt. Col. Earle Everett Larson, USAF (Ret) age 89, of San Antonio, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009. He was born February 6, 1920 in Angora, Minn., the youngest of eleven children. Earle attended Superior State for three years. After he joined the Army Air Corps he entered flight training in Texas, primary in Stamford, TX, basic at Randolph field and then advanced to Kelly Field. He received his wings and was commissioned 2nd Lt on January 1942 and served as a flight Instructor. Then late 1943 he was assigned to Waco No 1 as a flight instructor. During this period he met Dorothy. Then was ordered back to Randolph to instruct instructors, and added duty as flight check pilot. After fighter training he awaited for an overseas assignment in 1945, but by then the war was over. He was assigned occupation duty in bombed out Germany. He left Germany in 1947 to return to inactive status, but was recalled to active duty in 1948 to attained Staff weapons course at Lowry AFB Denver, CO., and again met Dorothy. Upon completion of the course he was ordered to Japan to join the 8th TAC Fighter Wing. He returned to the USA on TDY to attend a Nuclear Weapons Seminar at Treasure Island, California, where he married Dorothy. A year later she presented him with a beautiful daughter. Later he joined Neo Astro Corp in a staff position. Two years was enough because he wanted to do something else. He wanted to study Art. Earle received a BA degree from the University of Maryland and entered in the George Washington art program taking training at the Corcoran Museum of Art. He set up his own studio in 1977 and continued to do portraits. In 1991 he moved to Air Force Village in San Antonio. Earle was the last surviving sibling. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Louise Larson; daughter, Linda Searles and husband, Joseph Jr.; grandchildren, Joseph A. Searles III and Paul Everett Searles; great grandchildren, Lucas and Shane Searles.
