Genevieve L. Percy, 97, formerly of Centennial Apartments, died Saturday morning April 4, 2009 at Samaritan Keep Home, where she had been a resident for three years.
Mrs. Percy worked in a stocks and bonds office, and later was a secretary in the Watertown office of Travelers Insurance Co. After leaving the insurance company, she was a secretary for Watertown City School District Board of Education in Starbuck School until retiring in 1969.
Born July 6, 1911, in Gouverneur, daughter of Glen and Florence Leach Taitt, she attended schools in Gouverneur until 1929, when she came to Watertown and graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce.
She married Lyle H. Percy on June 18, 1936, at Bethany Methodist Church with the Rev. Edgar O. Spaven officiating. Mr. Percy, a retired post office clerk, died May 23, 1997.
Mrs. Percy was a member of First United Methodist Church and a life member of Educational Secretaries Association. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers at her cottage at Knobby Knoll, Sackets Harbor, and traveling.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Cronk, Watertown; three sons, Dr. Richard L., Naples, Fla., Dr. Lance E., Sanford, Fla., and David J., Lancaster, S.C., 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Clarence and Murray Taitt, and an infant son, Stephen D., died before her.
The funeral will be at the family's convenience. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Reed & Benoit Funeral home.
