Artist and Illustrator. His work was used to make the famous "Cottingley Fairies" photographs. He initially studied law, but changed to art in 1891. He trained in Paris and London, studying etching under Frank Short and Lee-Hankey. He began his career as a landscape painter, but later became well known as an illustrator of books, including Kate Douglas Wiggin's "The Diary of a Goose Girl" and also magazines such as "Punch". During World War I he produced a series of works depicting the tending of wounded soldiers. He was also a popular fairy painter, producing paintings for "Princess Mary's Gift Book". It was these images that were later used in the production of the notorious "Cottingley Fairies" photographs that convinced many of the true existence of fairies until they were finally exposed as forgeries. His Lithograph "Threshers" can be seen at the Fine Art Museum, San Francisco.
