David passed away on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2009 in Boulder, Colorado. David had suffered from asthma and his death is attributed to complications related to his illness. David was 39.
He loved the outdoors and would have rather been there than anywhere. From high school until his death, David loved mountain biking, ice hockey, fishing, hiking, and camping. He would later practice amateur rock climbing. He had a kinship with nature and loved animals and the freedom and spirit that the outdoors provided. It was always his hope to visit base camp at Mt. Everest but he never made that trip. With his passing and now, restored to his full vigor and health, perhaps he will finally make that trip.
David was born in Lansing, Michigan at Sparrow Hospital. David and family moved to St. Louis, Missouri when he was 1 year old. David graduated from Ladue Horton Watkins High School (St. Louis, MO) in 1987 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Colorado in 1991. He was involved in marketing and sales with several businesses. At the time of his death, he was a skilled carpenter and finisher.
His loves and best friends following college were his 3 dogs: Morgan (black Labrador retriever), Sadie (black Labrador retriever), and Moxie (a German shepherd). A special forever home for Moxie was found after David's death. Moxie enjoyed his life with his new loving family for over 2 years but got out one evening and was tragically killed on the road by a car. This was in March, 2011. We hope that David and Moxie have been reunited. They both loved each other.

In the search for that freedom, he had occasions to visit over 22 of the United States National Parks. He would share these trips with close friends or in solitary. On the occasion of what would have been David's 40th birthday, 50 of his closest and loyal friends from Boulder and from around the country gathered on March 18, 2009 in Boulder, Colorado at Chautaugua Park to share their grief and memories. David's family was extended a special honor on April 25, 2009 at the annual Old Bonhomme School Auction event. Through the financial generosity of David's friends and Old Bonhomme families, the Old Bonhomme school cafeteria was named the DAVID S. WEINREICH cafeteria for the 2009-2010 school year. His family was humbled by the donations from so many who raised a generous amount of money for the benefit of the School in David's name. This is where David attended elementary school. The formal dedication took place on October 29, 2009 in the OB cafeteria during the 2nd & 3rd grade lunch session. David would be humbled by this outpouring.
David is missed by many family and friends. His radiant smile and his special warmth and friendship touched many. He was never judgmental of others regardless of their station in life and that special tolerance carried him on life's journey until the end.
During our sad trip to Colorado to settle David's affairs the days following his death, we encountered the wind. We believe that it was a sign from David welcoming us to his side. One of our close Denver friends observed the same wind experience during the week following the passing of her husband. We truly believe the wind is the harbinger of finality and of peace.
