Frances Louise Coleman Roberts Hartmann, age 93, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility after an extended illness. Frances was a 1932 graduate of Jenkins County High School, Millen, Ga. Frances was born November 12, 1915, to William Edward and Irene Burke Coleman in Millen. She was raised in Midville and Millen, Ga. After high school graduation, Frances moved to Savannah to work and there she met Harold Dean Roberts. They married and then traveled extensively and lived all over the United States, New Mexico and Newfoundland, for her husband, Harold, was a colonel in the Air Force.
Frances was a great lover of dance and held many honored birthday ballroom dance parties. She and her second husband, Frank, were members of several dance groups including The Penquine Dance Club, The Shoreline Dance Club and Cordele Dance Club.
Frances was preceded in death by her first husband of 47 years, retired Col. Harold Dean Roberts; her parents, Edward and Irene Burke Coleman; a sister and brother-in-law, Vergie Coleman Alderman and Bill Alderman; Walter Crawford and Butch Roberts; and a niece, Pat Alderman Bush.
Frances is survived by her second husband of 25 years, Frank Hartmann of Savannah; two stepchildren, Jeff (Nancy) Hartmann of Perry, Ohio, and Judy Hartmann of New York City; her sister, Dorothy Coleman Crawford of Savannah; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Roberts of Vidalia, Ga. Frances is also survived by several nieces, Billie Alderman Vickery (Johnny) of Statesboro, Linda Roberts Turner (Wes) of Jacksonville, Fla., Andrea Crawford Gregg (John) of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda Crawford Stetlanos (Arthur) of Savannah; and several nephews, Col. Mike Roberts (Patty) of Wright-Patterson, Ohio, Walter Crawford (Debbie), Savannah, and George Crawford (Pam), Griffin, Ga. Frances was also survived by a great-niece, Paige Vickery of Vinings/Atlanta, Ga., Jeff and Tracey Vickery of Register and Bill and Jill Vickery of Statesboro.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, The Landings, Savannah, Ga. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro.
Hodges-Moore Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
