George Charles Christ, 89 of Redwood City, brother of Mrs. Ollie Brace of Palo Alto, died Friday morning At Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto, His father once was Redwood City Town Marshall.

Mr. Christ had been hospitalized for the past five week but had been in failing health for about two years, the family said.

He lived at 1490 Valota Road in Redwood City and had worked as a journeyman carpenter for 55 years prior to his retirement.

Mr. Christ was born in Redwood City and served in the U.S. Navy during the Spanish American War. He and his wife Edith, who survives him, had been married for 55 years.

His father, the late John Christ who died in 1933 at the age of 95, was Redwood City Town Marshall and once owned a feed, fuel and lumber company on the site of the Layng and Tinney Mortuary at Jefferson Avenue and Marshall Street.

Mr. Christ was a charter member of the eagles Lodge of Redwood City, and the carpenters union local 1408, both of Redwood City.

In addition to his wife and sister, he leaves two daughters Mrs. Lucille Moyano and Mrs. Florence LeRoy, both of Redwood City; two sons, John Christ, of Hayward and George C. Christ, Jr. of Newark; a sister, Mrs. Ollie Brace of Palo Alto, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Layng and Tinney Funeral Home, 717 Jefferson Ave., with Pastor Lon Hitchcock of the Grace Bible Church officiating. Burial will be at golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA.
