KENNETH L. GRESH, 89 ROCKFORD - Kenneth L. Gresh, 89, of Rockford and formerly of DeKalb died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, in P.A. Peterson Center for Health in Rockford. Born March 24, 1918, in Shabbona, the son of Warren and Ceceila (Duffy) Gresh. Kenneth married Mina Beverdan on Oct. 13, 1944, in Midland Park, N.J. Kenneth graduated from DeKalb High School in 1936. He served as a staff sergeant in the 15th Air Force, 454th Bombardment Group. He was a nose gunner in a B-24 bomber, flew 51 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Kenneth was a partner in DeKalb Implement, owner of Northern Illinois Harvestor, manager for Smith Oil, and in his retirement years, he was a part-time computer technician for Northern Illinois University. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the DeKalb Elks Lodge 765 and a member of the World War II Flyers Club of Rockford. He is survived by his wife, Mina, of 62 years; daughters, Gina (Chuck) DiBenedetto of Rockford and Sheila (Gaylon) Beckemeyer of Grand Rapids Mich.; son, John (JoAnn) Gresh of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Alex (Stephanie) DiBenedetto, Jeff (Kim) DiBenedetto, Trent Gresh, Tracy (Jay) Senterfitt, Heidi Beckemeyer and Meg Beckemeyer; great-grandchildren, Jake and Sophie DiBenedetto, Aubree and Evan Grove, Gavin, Carter, Grayson and Lily Senterfitt; sisters, Patricia Cook of Kentucky, and Carolyn Solkolnicki of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene; and grandson, James Scott McAllister. The family sends special thanks to the wonderful staff at P.A. Peterson Center for Health's Bergmark Villa for all their loving care. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, in St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb, with Father Kenneth Anderson officiating. Burial in Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the church. Memorials may be made to: P.A.
