At the age of six years he had the misfortune of losing his father by death and spent the remainder of his boyhood days with an uncle, Joseph Keller, on a farm near New Franklin.
When he became old enough, he learned the cabinet making trade. Upon completion of his trade, he spent several years working in the western states.
After returning to Chambersburg he met and married Miss Ella Palmer, March 15, 1879, began farming on the old Palmer homestead where he resided until his death. He reared a family of five children.
Mr. Oyler became a member of the First Lutheran Church during the ministry of the Reverend O. C. Roth, D. D. He was strictly a Christian man, taking an active part in all activities of the church he so much loved. He served several terms on the Church Council.
He was exceedingly generous in his support of every cause, in or out of the church, which he thought to be worthy.
On February 11, 1920, he gave up his work here on earth and went to his eternal home at the age of 66 years. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
