James Bay, 76, of Springfield, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at 8:08 p.m. in Mercy Medical Center. He was born January 6, 1923, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Barton) Bay. He graduated from Olive Branch High School, and attended Wittenberg
University and Miami Jacobs College. He had worked for Patterson Field, Robertson Sign, Parker Sweeper, Springfield Machine Tool, Mitchell Engineering, Yost Superior, director of personnel Community Hospital, and retired in 1990 as general manager of Marco Polo Association, caring for 572 unit condos in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu and was an Elder and Trustee. Jim was a past moderator of the Hawaii Presbyterian Council. He had
served as financial secretary for New Life Presbyterian Church in Fruitland Park, Florida, and attended First Church of the Nazarene. Jim was a past master of Masonic Lodge, New Carlisle 100 Free and Accepted Masons, past high priest New Carlisle Chapter 57, past illustrious master of New Carlisle Council 143, Royal and Select Masons, past commander Palestine Commandery No. 33, past prior of Honolulu Lodge 86, Knights of York Cross of Honor, past patron of New Carlisle 423 Ohio Eastern Star, Past Shrine and Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, past chairman of American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineering, American Management Association and a volunteer fireman at Garden Acres Number 2 Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie (Sterling) Bay, whom he married August
27, 1973; a daughter, Susan (James) Hartley, of Springfield; a step-daughter, Vickie Nichols, of Pinellas Park, Florida; a step-son, Jeffery (Vicki) Berg, of
Springfield; five grandchildren, Kelli Griffith, Missi Griffith, Jason Nichols, Monica Nichols, and Jeremy Berg; two great grandchildren, Jon and Rene Sabol; a sister, Lois Day, of California, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Dick Bierly. He was preceded in death by his parents and two half-brothers. Friends may call Thursday, August 5, 1999, from 5-8 p.m. in the Jackson Lytle & Ingling Williams Funeral Home, North Limestone Chapel. Masonic lodge services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m.
at the First Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Claude Nicholas and Rev. Dene Anstine officiating. Interment will follow in Medway Cemetery.
