Obituary for Elmer C. Brown
The morning sunrise may be bright, the sky cloudless, the day filled with bright hopes and cherished plans but how suddenly the dark clouds can gather and the sunset of the day be shrouded by the fierce storm that breaks upon us with all its fury. The day is enveloped in darkness, loving hearts are torn with sorrow, the spirit is wounded and we are made to realize a tragic change has come. In these hours of bewilderment and grief the crushed heart cries " Why was our loved one taken ?" Where can we go ?" What can we do ?" Standing in the shadows that have fallen unbidden in your life, you will find Jesus who knows your sorrow and has the balm for the aching heart. The loved ones of Elmer C. Brown faced this dark storm, Sunday, September 28, 1969 about 11:15 A.M. at their home, when he quietly and unexpectedly consummated his earthly sojourn at the age of 67 years, 4 months, 19 days. He was born May 19, 1902 in Henry Co. Kentucky. Being an orphan, he was raised by Otha and Albert Smith who gave him the love and care he needed in his growing years. Oct. 28, 1922 he was united in marriage to Lucy C. Stopher. Three daughters and two sons came to bless and add to the joys of the home. Mrs. Jean Tyler, Madison; Mrs. Dot Curry, Rising Sun; Mrs. Libby Markland, Rt. 2, Rising Sun; Sons: James, Vevay and Earl Wayne, Carswell Air Force Base, Ft. Worth, TX. Sons-in-Law; Henry "Pee Wee" Curry, Nelson "Sam" Markland and Herschel Tyler. A daughter-in-law, Marjorie Brown. Coming to Indiana at the age of 4, he spent most of his life in Jefferson, Ohio and Switzerland Counties, farming and doing construction work. He retired about seven years ago. He built his world around his family and home and was happiest when they were with him. Their joys and sorrows, the hard places and pleasant places in life were equally shared by him. He was a good husband, father, grandfather,great-grandfather, neighbor and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. Although his health had not been good for some time, yet his passing was sudden, unexpected and indeed a dark cloud on the horizon of life. Many friends and other relatives share the loss and sorrow of his passing with his devoted wife, the five children, three sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. God understands your sorrow, He sees the falling tear and whispers " I am with thee", then falter not, nor fear. God understands your heartache, He knows the bitter pain; O, trust Him in the darkness, You cannot trust in vain. He understands your sorrow, Your deepest grief He shares, then let Him bear your burden, He understands, and cares. CARD OF THANKS We want to sincerely thank each and everyone who were so kind and thoughtful during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father--ELMER C. BROWN. A special thanks to those who sent flowers, cards, memorials and food. Also to Rev. Forrest Taylor for his comforting words; Detmer & Detmer Funeral Home; Velma & Roy Manuel for their songs and the pallbearers. Mrs. Lucy Brown & Family
