Thomas Jefferson "Tom" Camp, was the third of ten children born to Charles J and Maranda Carden Camp, in Campbellton, Campbell County (now Fulton) Georgia. He was named for his maternal grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Carden. Tom registered for WWI military service after he moved from Georgia to San Francisco.

Tom was married to Lucille Byrne Rosebrook and was a tavern owner in San Francisco for over 40 years.
