Abraham was interested in land in Grand Island Nebraska but was delayed by floods. He heard about land to sell cheap near Hutchinson, Kansas so he decided to go there. Abraham, with his family and the Christian Bontrager family left Shelbyville, Illinois to move to Hutchinson on July 25, 1883 with five freight cars of belongings for the two families. They slept in a hotel in Hutchinson for two nights till the wagons were unloaded, the wheels put on the wagons, the horses harnessed, hitched up, and their belongings loaded in the wagons to go to their new homes. Hutchinson at this time was 12 years old and had wooden sidewalks. Cow chips and twisted grass were burned for heat as there was no wood. Abraham died at the age of 61 and was the first to be buried in the West Center Cemetery. Abraham,s first wife was Magdalena Miller. She died August 14th 1861. His 2nd wife was Dinah Yoder. She died Oct. 16 1882.
