Rose M. Saglimbene Intrieri (Nana), 93, formerly of McKee Rd. in Erie passed away at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. She was the daughter of the late John and Domenica Maleta Saglimbene. Rose is survived by her daughter, Barbara Intrieri Karle, and her husband, Gerald W., of Erie; grandson, Gerald R. Karle, of Philadelphia; granddaughters, Renee Lasher Shank and her husband, David, Karen Karle Brobst and her husband, Steven; great-grandsons Joshua D. Shank, Caleb S. Brobst, Zachary D. Shank; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth L. Brobst, all of Erie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Erie, Warren Co., and New Jersey; and a dear cousin in New York. Rose was preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Marie Intrieri Lasher, in November 2000; and granddaughter, Shira Ann Lasher, in July 2008; a brother, Philip T. Saglimbene; two sisters, Columbia Pasquino and Martha Ferrare; and a step-brother, Armand (Rats) Sorge. Rose attended Columbus grade school and held fond memories of her days at Roosevelt Junior High and Strong Vincent High School. She worked at Western Provision meat market for over 25 years and was well known to her customers at the 21st and Peach location as the Hot Dog lady, giving samples of Smith's hot dogs to the children while their mothers shopped. In the 50s and 60s, she was an active member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the their Rosary Altar Society. She spent her retirement years enjoying her grandchildren and going out to lunch with friends. Rose was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church but didn't stop there: she and her friends volunteered at the Westminster Presbyterian food bank, and socialized with friends at St. Jude's Friends over Fifty, Our Lady of Peace, Asbury United Methodist and Wayside Presbyterian senior groups. She was "Nana" to all her grandchildren's friends and will be remembered for her Italian sauce and meatballs, her favorite self-description, "Fat and Sassy", and her generosity to her family. Always practical, Nana would rather feed you than send flowers. So if you'd like to honor Rose's life, remember a charity close to her heart, The Second Harvest Food Bank, 1507 Grimm Dr., Erie, PA 16501. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, W. 9th & Liberty St., Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's RC Church, 16th & Walnut. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
