James Edwin Ford, CSA, served in the War Between the States, Company "H" 24 Regiment of the North Carolina Regulars (formerly the 14th Volunteers)which was organized at Weldon, North Carolina in July, 1861. James enlisted when he was 19 years old. Father George Moore Ford (Foard) and Brother John T. Ford served in the same unit. Brother Gaston Taylor Ford enlisted at age 15 as part of Company C of the 4th Battalion of the North Carolina Junior Reserves (boys 15 to 18 years old. Children of James Edwin and Edna Elizabeth Simmons Ford: Walter Bell Ford, Emma Elizabeth (Bettie) Ford Marble, Howard Spurgeon Ford, Mary Virginia Ford Macomber, Harvey Lee Ford and Cornelius Vanderbilt Ford.
