Obituary:
Lynn D. Stevens went to his eternal home Saturday, January 31, 2009. He passed away at Good Samaritan Home in Beatrice, NE at the age of 68. He was born February 4, 1940 to Orville and S. Dessa (Wilkinson) Stevens in Beatrice, NE. He spent his entire life in the Hoag Community NW of Beatrice, NE, where he graduated 8th grade from Caldwell School. He attended high school in Beatrice, NE, graduating in May of 1957. Lynn served his country, joining the U.S. Army from January 1958 to January 1961 as an aircraft mechanic. During this time he spent one year in Korea.

Lynn was a lifelong farmer, loving the land and the crops it produced. He worked many years as an earth mover operator for Walter Garman Construction, drove a milk truck for Leland Bredwell picking up milk at local dairies and delivering to Meadow Gold in Lincoln, built new homes for Burger Construction, and was a NA-CHURS and Alpine fertilizer sales associate for over 15 years. Lynn and Selma Sailors were married at the Palisade United Methodist Church in Palisade, NE June 12, 1966. To this union one son, Troy was born.

Lynn never met a stranger. He especially liked having daily coffee with his many friends. Lynn was a long time member of Beatrice Rural Fire Department, Charter member of Homestead Early Risers Kiwanis Club, member of Gage County Rental Property Association, Tree Farmers of America, and a member of First Christian Church (DOC) of Beatrice, NE. He loved to design and build anything mechanical.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife: Selma; son: Troy Stevens and wife Krista and grandchildren Logan and Riley of Beatrice, NE; 2 sisters: Joan Hedlund of Omaha, NE, and Jean Larsen and husband Marvin of Auburn, NE; his mother-in-law: Zora Sailors of Trenton, NE; his brother-in-law: Garen Sailors and wife Janice of Sun Lakes, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents: Orville and S. Dessa (Wilkinson) Stevens; his father-in-law: Merle Sailors; and his brother-in-law: Leonard Hedlund.

Memorial:
A memorial has been established to the families' choice with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in charge.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice, NE.

Visitations:
The body will lie in state Tuesday, February 3, 2009, from noon – 9PM at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel and one hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday.

Services:
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Beatrice, NE with Rev. David Bigley officiating. Military Graveside Services will be provided by Bitting-Norman Post #27 American Legion of Beatrice, NE. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Wednesday in the church parlor.
