Gene Adams, 78, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at his home. He was born March 20, 1927, in Monroe County to James Vard and Willie Knowles Adams. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton and a retired plumber, pipeline welder, construction worker and cattle farmer. He was a Seaman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific area during World War II. He was a Baptist.

A memorial service was held at the Nettleton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wally Cayson and the Rev. Aubrey Boren officiating. Burial with military honors were held at Gray's Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Nettleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Louise Wheatley Adams of Nettleton; two daughters, Linda Adams Hanna of Nettleton and Sheila Adams Wren of Shannon; four sons, Walter Eugene Adams Jr. and wife, Yvonne, of Peoria, Ariz., Roy Adams and wife, Debbie, of Nettleton, Jesse Adams and wife, Shelia, of Albertville, Ala., and Nick Adams and wife, Cathy, of Shannon; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Marie Langley Adams; three brothers, George Adams, Russell Adams and Merle Adams; and a grandson, Micheal Scott.
