MRS. FRED MATHEWS DEAD

After an illness of about two weeks from typhoid fever, Mrs. [Emma] Daisy Mathews, wife of Fred Mathews, died at her home here at an early hour Tuesday morning. [Oct. 6, 1903]. For about twenty-four hours prior to her death the lady was in very critical condition and heart stimulants had to be administered to keep her alive until the arrival of her son who had been attending the agricultural college at Logan. The deceased was thirty-seven years of age and leaves besides a husband and two children many relatives and scores of friends that mourn her untimely death. She was formerly Miss Hill and was a sister to Mrs. Isaac Darton, Mrs. Wm Dennis, Mrs. Edward Hickman and Mrs. Wm Knight all of this place.
Mrs. Mathews was one of the most popular women of this city and took a very active part in matters of a social and charitable nature. She was a member of Tintic Hive No. 6 L O D(?) M and also Columbia Lodge No. 2 Daughters of Rebekah. In the latter society she held the office of vice-president in the state organization.
The funeral services were held at the Odd Fellows hall Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the above societies. Rev. Bain of the M E Church at this place and Rev Waldman Murphy a former pastor of the same parish were the speakers.
Rev Murphy who is now located at Provo delivered a beautiful eulogy in honor of the deceased with whom he had been personally acquainted and spoke words of comfort to the relatives. The casket was covered with floral offerings from the friends of the family and the various societies to which the deceased lady and her husband belonged.
In the funeral cortege which followed the remains to the city cemetery where interment took place under the direction of undertaker James Eustice were delegations from K O T M L O I M D of {?} and I O O F
