Mrs. H.V. Sacia expired suddenly at Green Bay, Nov. 7th. She was one of the pioneers of the county.

Cordelia Packard was born Jan. 16, 1826 in Vermont state. Her parents were of New England stock and came from England to America in 1638. They came to Western New York first then moved to Milwaukee where deceased was married in 1841 to H. V. Sacia at the age of 15 years. They moved to Rock River Woods then to Galena, Ill. and from there came to La Crosse Co. in 1856. Having lived in this vicinity 57 years. She watched the country grow to civilization. Ten children were born to them of which five sons mourn her loss, Charles, Frank, Harmon, Lincoln and Clarence all of La Crosse county. The husband was a member of the 8th Wis. Regiment and a G.A.R. member while deceased was a faithful worker in the W.R.C. She is the last to die in a family of eight children, being 81 years, 10 months and 22 days of age the 2nd of Sept. Mrs. Sacia accompanied her grand daughter to Green Bay on a visit where she has been under the doctors care constantly suffering from infection of the gall bladder. Mrs. Sacia was generally beloved on account of her estimable qualities. Up to the time of her death she evinced an energy and keen mental capacity wonderful for one of her years. The remains were brought to Midway, Nov. 8th the funeral being held Sunday from the home of her son Harmon. The pall bearers were her five sons and J.W. Snow of La Crosse. Interment was in the private cemetery. Rev. Kneen of Arcadia, a nephew of deceased delivered a fine sermon in behalf of the sorrowing relatives. She was the grandmother of forty-four children and great grandmother of 26. Her husband preceeded her fourteen years the 23rd of Oct.
