James Garner Covert was born March 18, 1900; his age at time of death October 14, 1916, was 16 years, 6 months and 26 days. He was a lovable lad, devoted in his love to parents and to his younger brother, studious in school and esteemed and respected by school mates and teachers. Oh, how sad that this dear boy, just on the verge of manhood, with every prospect and assurance of being a life-long comfort to parents, should be thus taken, without one last fond adieu. But "The Lord Giveth and the Lord Taketh Away". He gave Garner to papa and mama for sixteen years and then called him to make Heaven brighter and more attractive.

Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church Monday afternoon by Rev. F.E. DuBois, the church building being unable to hold one half of the large concourse of friends. The entire school was formed in line and marched to the cemetery, making an impressive scene. The pall bearers were chosen from among his boy school-mates and the young ladies of his class were dressed in pure white with purple sashes. The casket was entirely covered with wreaths and bouquets of most beautiful flowers, the tribute of kind-hearted friends.

Could we say aught or do aught to relieve the suffering of father, mother, and little brother, gladly would it be done. That they have the deepest, most earnest sympathy of all is beyond question, and all we can do is to point them to Him who is the Great Comforter.

Mr. and Mrs. Covert desire the Herald to express to all friends their deep and lasting gratitude, their most earnest and sincere thanks for the many, many kindnesses shown them in this, their most trying hour.
