Pretty Woodville Wedding
PATTERSON-McCONNON
A very pretty wedding was soleminised recently at All Saints' Church, Palmerston North, when Frances May, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs R. McConnon, became the bride of Jack Sherwood, younger son of Mr and Mrs J. B. Patterson, of Ballance. The ceremony was performed by Canon Woodward, the church being beautifully decorated with arum lilies and lily of the valley. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her father, presented a most charming picture in a frock of ivory embossed satin, cut on classical lines and her billowy tulle veil was caught to the head with a coronet of orange blossom. A three-string pearl necklet finished the neckline and her toilette ws completed with a shower bouquet of cream fragmetissima and lily of the valley. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a floral horseshoe by a very old family friend, as a token of good luck.
Miss June Gray, of Lower Hutt, and Miss Jean McConnon (sister of the bride), attended the bride and looked equally charming in frocks of coral pink satin and picture hats of pleated pink tulle. Pint tulle bows with long steamers finished the waistline. They wore initialed gold lockets, gifts of the bridegroom and carried bouquets of pink roses and lilac. The duties of best man were entrusted to Mr Norman Hardy, of the R.N.Z.A.F., being stationed at Auckland, while the duties of groomsman were ably carried out by Mr F. W. Hanning of Palmerston North/
The reception was held at the Jade tearooms, P.D.C. Buildings, where Mr and Mrs McConnon entertained about 70 guests. Mrs McConnon received her guests wearing a navy crepe de chene ensemble and picture hat. She was assisted by Mrs Patterson, who wore black wool crepe.
Later the happy couple left on a honeymoon to be spent in Auckland, Rotorua and New Plymouth. The bride's travelling frock was of sky blue crepe de chene over which she wore a brown fur coat, the gift of the bridegroom. An autumn tinted floral toque with brown accessories finished the toilette.
The bridal pair were the recipients of many beautiful gifts and cheques and many messages of congratulations, including a cablegram from Melbourne and one from the Middle East.
