Death of Mr. W.W. Corcoran's Sister
From the Washington Post, May 13.
A sad bereavement has fallen upon the family of Rev. Stephen P. Hill in the death of his wife which occurred Sunday. Mrs. Hill was well known in the District having been born in Georgetown over 70 years ago. Her demise leaves her brother, Mr. W.W. Corcoran the only surviving descendant of the late Thomas Corcoran, for many years Mayor of Georgetown. Mrs. Hill's maiden name was Ellen Corcoran, she being the youngest of three sisters. There were also three sons, two of whom, James and Thomas are dead. Of the sisters, Eliza, the eldest never married; Sarah became the wife of Dr. William Jones, formerly Postmaster of this city and Ellen married Dr. Hill nearly half a century ago.
Today her remains will be placed in the Corcoran Mausoleum at Oak Hill Cemetery where the bodies of her brothers and sisters are interred. Mrs. Hill has been sick for over four months, her last appearance in public being at the reception tendered by the ladies of the Louise Home to Mr. Corcoran on his eightieth birthday. She was prominently connected with many charities, being a Director in the Louise Home and the Protestant Orphan Asylum.
