1882 Death of Judgge Ayers. Hamilton Ayres, of Parsons, Kan., formerly a resident of this village, died at Oswego, Kan., last Wednesday. On the afternoon of the previous day he was stricken with an apopleotie fit while addressing a jury in a criminal case in the district court. Physicians were immediately summoned and found that his right side was paralysed. He was removed to a hotel where he lingered until early the next morning when death ensued. From the moment of the attack he was unable to speak or to convey intelligence to those about him. The remains arrived here on Saturday night and were interred on Sunday, funeral services being held in the Reformed church immediately after the interment, Dr. Wortman,
officiating. Deceased was born at East Creek, but at an early age he removed with his father, then a prominent physician, to Amsterdam. He past a portion of hie collegiate course at Amherst, but graduated from Union, and soon after began the practice of law which be followed several years in this village and at Canajoharie. He married a daughter of the late Cornelius Mabee, of Palatine Church, who lived but a short time after her marriage. His second wife was a sister of the first, and her death occurred last October. The Judge was about sixty years of age, and during his residence in this county he maintained a high position for learning and ability. Two children, who are in charge of their aunt at Canastota, survive; a son, Mabee Ayres, aged sixteen, and Mary Ayres, aged thirteen. The brothers who survive the Judge are Gen. Romayn B. Ayres, now stationed at Washington; Dr. James Ayres, of Kalamazoo, Mich ; Dr. Darwin Ayres, of Little Rook, Ark.; Irving Ayres, of Oakland, Cal.; and Charles Ayres, of Amsterdam. Dr. A. Ayres, of this village, was a cousin. Among those present from abroad at the funeral were A. S. Mabee and daughter, of Chittenango, Miss A. M. Mabee and the children of deceased, of Canastota. The DaUy Paraons Eclipse, in noticing the death of Judge Ayres says: Since the death of Mrs. Ayres last fall, the judge has never regained his elasticity of spirits. The loss of his wife and the breaking up of his family seemed to overpower and crush him, and his mental distress was ever to be seen by the careful observer. Judge Ayres had many friends in Parsons who will deeply regret his taking off.

Christiana Mabee was Alexander's first wife, and the sister of his second wife, Emily Mabee.
