(Mortality schedules run from June 1st to May 31st. Deaths listed in the 1860 Mortality schedule would run from June 1, 1859 to May 31, 1860. Pollie Guest's death is listed as taking place in October. This would mean that Pollie died in Oct 1859. This is a common mistake transcribers make when listing the year. You have to see the additional information listed on the form.
I understand that the 1860 census listed her, but there could be a reason why that is. One reason - If the census taker asked who the mother of the children were, without clarifying if she was still living. I am sure there could be others, but that one comes to mind.
I am also thinking that if Pollie did actually die in Oct 1860, Martin did not spend much time mourning when he married Sarah Icenhower in January of 1861, 3 months later.
