Corporal, Clyde C. Franklin was a veteran of World War I when he served with the 409th Company, Motor Supply Train from Sep 1917 to Aug 1919 as an Enlistee. No doubt he knew that his grandfather, Campbell Franklin had served in the Civil War in the area of Conscripts (Camp Instruction), in East Tennessee.

Clyde was born in Moultrie County, Illinois where his surviving widowed grandmother, Rebecca Ann Jacobs Franklin, brought her children between 1880 and 1890 from Jefferson County, Tennessee. Clyde's father, Joseph Thomas Franklin, was the 1st born of those children.

Clyde's mother, Martha Hazelwood Franklin too was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee where she married Clyde's father in 1880 before the family's migration on into Illinois. Clyde was one of the five children born to his parents which consisted of 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Clyde was the 2nd born child/son within his family unit and was the 1st child to be born in Illinois in 1890.

Clyde met and married Josephine Hartzel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and they had no children together. Clyde operated a tavern until his death when his wife took over that responsibility from him.
