Invented the drinking straw ca. 1888 and three years later was manufacturing it in Washington D.C. with a $100,000 payroll. He died in Washington D.C. and is buried in Baltimore, MD. His straw manufacturing company is still in operation as Stone Straw Ltd. with manufacturing plants in Canada & Poland.

Further research on Marvin from E49: The 1870 US Census, Edinburg, Portage Co, OH shows him living with his parents, Chester and Rachel (poss nee: Calvin, as there are several other members of the household by that surname, some younger and a Benjamin Calvin, age 80 included). The 1880 US Census Falls Church, Fairfax County, Va, Marvin is listed with his wife, Janie H, b. c1848 in VA.
