She was the daughter of Juanita Kirk Lynch and Dr. Kenneth M. Lynch.
Martha graduated from Ashley Hall in 1936 and from Vassar College with a degree in architectural history in 1940. From 1949 to 1960 she worked at the Charleston Museum. She served two terms as president of the Junior League of Charleston and was editor of the first Junior League Cookbook.
She is survived by her husband, William W. Humphreys; three daughters, Josephine Humphreys Hutcheson, Katherine Humphreys Guckenberger, and Margaret Walker Humphreys; two nieces, Elizabeth Lynch Hodges and Nancy Lynch Powell; five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
