In April 1944 he was sent overseas to join the 348th Fighter Squad., 364th Fighter Group of the Air Force. On August 1, 1944, his plane collided with another and he fell to his death in the English countryside. After the signing of the Armistice his body was returned to the United States, he is buried in the "Golden Gate National Cemetery" in San Bruno, California.
