Harvey William Barfield was born 1904 in Institute Township, Lenoir County, NC, the eldest of 7 known surviving children (4 boys/3 girls) born to farmers, Jesse V. Barfield and his wife, Lizza/Lizzie Shepherd.

He was the paternal grandson of Micajah Barfield & Martha Wooten of Greene, and later Lenoir County; and gr-grandson of Noah B. Barfield and his unknown (1st) wife.

Harvey married Lela Bryant after 1920, and farmed in the the Auburn-Garner area of Wake County.

He died of respiratory failure in 1970 at age 65. His wife survived him by 13 years, passing in 1983 at about age 85.
