The Quinault Hotel was built by Jack Ewell in1903. He sold the hotel in 1905 to Alfred and Ransom Higley who, along with Ransom's wife, Maggie, operated the hotel, post office and store. It was taken over by Richard and Herbert Olson in about 1907. After they left the Quinault Hotel, Alfred, Ransom and Maggie Higley moved across the lake to Canoe Creek on the North Shore. It was there that they planned to build a new hotel. In 1912, the Higley Hotel was completed. There was no road on the North Shore until 1924, so all guests were transferred across Lake Quinault in Alfred Higley's gasoline launch.

Good day and thank you for your response. The Wikipedia article is an interesting story of the Lake Quinault Lodge, however according to the Lake Quinault Historical Society and Museum, it leaves out the information concerning the Higleys' ownership and operation. The LQHS states Alfred and Ransom Higley bought it from Jack Ewell the original builder in 1905. Subsequently it was taken over from them by Herbert Olson in about 1907. At this time the Higleys moved across the lake where they planned and built the Higley Hotel, Post Office and store, completed in 1912.
In addition this LQHS Spring & Summer Newsletter has information on the 1966 Aberdeen Daily Worlds' featured six-part series of "The Higleys, Lake Quinault Pioneers" written by Rowena L. and Gordon D. Alcorn. In addition the Newsletter includes many photos of Higley, Donaldson, Streater families as well as the various hotels.
