DeVerter, Evelyn Janett
Died on May 21, 2004, after several months of declining health. Born Evelyn Janett Vogelsang on December 16, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Evelyn was one of the first women to serve in the Womens Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II and was stationed in England, North Africa and Italy. Evelyn married her husband, Carl DeVerter, in Naples, Italy, during the war. They relocated to Southern California in 1946 and moved to Sacramento in 1954. She retired from the California State Franchise Tax Board in 1974 after serving with that agency as one of the first woman State Tax Representatives. Widowed in 1972 she moved to Henderson, NV, in 1989 where she met her second husband, Donald Hansen. She was again widowed in 1997. Evenly was a strong-minded and determined woman who relentlessly pursued that which was right. She was a caring, giving, and generous person, always holding her friends and children in the highest of esteem. Evelyn is survived by her two children, Margie Pacheco and Carl DeVerter II; her grandson, Brian DeVerter; her brothers, Victor and Virgil Vogelsang; and her sisters, Lois TenEyck and Bonnie Stephens. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Vogelsang, and her sister, Joyce Smyth. Her devoted friends and family will miss her tremendously. At her request, there will be no local services. The family requests remembrances be in the form of donations to charities of the donors choice.
