1 of 3 known sons of Alfred Gower (1853-) & Nanette 'Annie Stevens' (1859-1949). Alfred was a Baker in Woodville in partnership, until 1886, with William May, under the name Gower & May. Alfred then became a butcher in Pahiatua. He was the owner or occupier of Section 45, Block X in the Woodville Survey District.

In 1895 Alfred was missing from his home when the police tried to serve his arrest warrant for stealing 25 head of cattle from the Monckton Bros, Oringi station and selling them to the auctioneers at the Palmerston Sales. Eventually his wife Annie went to Monckton's house and made an offer to pay on her husband's behalf. She said that it was the first time he had been dishonest and that unless proceedings were stayed he would commit suicide that night. They refused. Detective Kirby was confident that he had a clue which would lead to Alfred's arrest.

their children
1882 - 1883 Clyde Eversleigh Gower (age 4 months)
1883 - 1886 Alfred Eversleigh Aorangi Gower (age 3)
1886 - 1964 Algernon Carlyle Gower (+Wybourne)
