AVON - Mrs. Jay Hammond, 66, of Prairie City, died Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, following an illness of several months.
The former Ethel Mary Chambers was born Jan. 13, 1896, in Bernadotte. She was married June 21, 1912 to Jay Hammond.
Survivors, besides her husband, include six sons, Glen of Galesburg, Orin of Bushnell, Earl, Junior, and Gene, of Monmouth, and Max of Knoxville; four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Cutshaw of Highland, Calif., Mrs. Erma Burke of Acampo, Calif., Mrs. Velma Witherbee of Galesburg, and Mrs. Dorothy Graver of Gilson; 29 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two brothers, George and Harvey Chambers, of Lewiston. She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter.
Funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Brand Funeral Home in Avon. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery near Midway. Friends may call anytime Tuesday evening at the funeral home."
