Elizabeth married Duncan Gilfillan in Woodville on 13 May 1889, she died 4 months later.
Woodville Examiner, 13 Sep 1889
We regret to have to record the death of Mrs Gilfillan, daughter of Mr Millin. Deceased was a general favorite and had only been married about four months and has been suffering from a painful illness for over three months.
In 1893 Duncan was a Joiner in Palmerston North. He then went to Chicago and from there to California and tried his hand at fruit farming, then in Jan 1895 he was living in South Africa where he bought some land and built two cottages. Prior to that he was living in Johannesburg but had to leave when the Boer war was declared. He then joined the Cape Railway Pioneer Regiment, which was formed of refugees from the Rand during the early part of the war. The men of that regiment spent time working repairing railways and bridges along with fighting.
