A. E. DUNLAP DIES AFTR BRIEF ILLNESS
Funeral Services Held on Sunday Afternoon. Many attend.
VERY WELL KNOWN
Was Councilman for Eight Years and with Insurance Co. 18 Years.

A. E. Dunlap one of the most widely known men of Delaware county, passed away at the Jones hospital here Thursday morning, Sept. 5, 1940, after an illness of a week.

Funeral services were held at the Community church Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. William A. Frazier. Burial was made in Oakland cemetery with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in charge of the services at the graveside.

Alexander Elsworth Dunlap, eldest son of Thos. B. and Rose Dunlap, was born in Hazel Green township, Delaware county, Aug. 4, 1868. He grew to manhood on the home farm attended the public schools and Lenox college at Hopkinton and later received a business training at Western college at Toledo, Ia.

Mar. 25, 1896, he was united in marriage with Miss Mandana Danford of Hazel Green township, and for several years following he was a member of the F. B. Dickey company there.

In 1909 he served as deputy clerk, and in 1912 he, and Mrs. Dunlap, left the farm and came to Manchester to become county recorder, a position he filled faithfully for nine years. At the time of his death Mr. Dunlap had served 18 years as a secretary of the Delaware County Farmers Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance company.

Because of his sincere interest in civic and business affairs, he held many positions of trust and honor. In March, 1925, he was elected as a councilman, and served in that position for eight years. During the World war he was a member of the Delaware County Exemption board, and was also instrumental in helping organize the Manchester Golf and Country club, and found a great deal of pleasure associating with members of that club. For several years he was a member of the board of directors of the Farmers and Merchants Savings bank of this city and was always interested in the work of the local Chamber of Commerce. During the residence in Hazel Green township he was a member of the Golden Congregational church, and upon coming to Manchester became identified with the local Congregational church and later the Community church. Fraternally, Mr. Dunlap held memberships in the Masonic, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias orders. At the time of his death he was treasurer of the Odd Fellows order. He took much interest in the work of the orders and was held in highest esteem by the members.

Besides his wife, Mr. Dunlap is survived by a sister, Mrs. Myra Gilespie, of Jamestown, N. Y.; two half- brothers, Herman J. Dunlap, of Hopkinton, and Ray Dunlap, of Masonville; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Jessie McGuire, of Valparaso, Ind., and Miss Vivian Dunlap, a teacher in the Minnesota State Teachers college at Duluth, Minn. A brother, Robert Dunlap, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth McKean, preceded him in death.

In the passing of Mrs. Dunlap, Manchester loses an upright and highly respected citizen, a man who was closely connected with the life of this community. All who had the pleasure of knowing him at once recognized the high qualities of heart and mind which were so outstanding in life. Mr. Dunlap will long be missed by the people of this community, and his passing leaves his home desolate and brings earth's greatest sorrow to the widow and other members of the family.

The earnest sympathy of our people goes out to the stricken companion and all who were attached to him by ties of tender affection.
