Resident of Orinda James H. Gallagher passed away Sept. 26, 2006 with his family by his side. He was 85. An Oakland native, Jim founded one of Walnut Creek's oldest establishments, Contra Costa Appliance, in 1949. As a young man he was a journeyman carpenter helping rebuild Pearl Harbor and shortly thereafter serving his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII. He also enjoyed racing sports cars. Jim was an active parishioner at Santa Maria Catholic Church helping with the church construction. For 25 years he sang with the Devil Mt. Chorus, aka the Walnut Creek Barbershoppers. He leaves behind his 6th-grade sweetheart and beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara; loving daughters, Sandy McCabe (Bill), Mary Jo Gallagher , and Barbara A. Gallagher ; grandchildren, David and Jenny; and great-grandchild, Alex. A Mass of Christian burial will be said on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Santa Maria Catholic Church, 40 Santa Maria Way in Orinda. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
