TOPEKA – Donald A. Zabel died March 31, 2009, at a Topeka hospital. He was 78. He was born July 26,1930, near Quenemo, the son of Ervin and Evalena Shoaf Zabel.
He lived all of his life around the Quenemo
and Melvern communities. He graduated from
Melvern High School and served in the U.S.
Air Force from 1950-1954.
He worked as a welder for Ottawa Truck and
was a farmer and stockman.
He was a member of the Melvern American Legion Post No. 317.
He married LaVon Rosetta June 8, 1952, in
Lyndon. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and
a brother,Charles Zabel.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter,LaDonna Dickey,and husband,Frank,Quenemo;two sons, Robert Zabel and wife, Kathy,and William Zabel and wife,Kathy, all of Melvern; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were April 4,2009, at Feltner Funeral
Chapel, Lyndon. Burial followed at Pleasant
View Cemetery east of Melvern.Memorial
