Funeral services for Willis Bateman, resident of the Kemp and Styx communities for many years, were held at the Church of Christ at Styx January 30. He died in Seagoville while on a visit.
Mr. Bateman was born on November 1, 1869 in McEwen, Tennessee and came to Texas with his family when he was ten years of age. He lived first at Ennis, then at Porter's Bluff in Henderson County and later at Styx.
Surviving are four sons, Willie Coleman Bateman of Liberty, Elvin Bateman of Houston, and Leslie and Orval Bateman, both of Dawson; three daughters, Mrs. Homer Cunningham of Ferris, Mrs. J.W. Hurley of Seagoville and Drew Weisner of Fort Worth; nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
