Suddenly Called.
Our community was startled by the announcement that George Downer, an old citizen of Northfield, had expired suddenly while riding in his cart on the road to this place, last Monday morning. It happened about a mile this side of Northfield. J. P. Ware, Thos. F. Davis and Ed Adams were on the road with lumber to put up a wind pump, and just as they were meeting Mr. Downer he lurched forward and fell over the dash board, and hung in front of the wheel. Mr. Ware caught the horse and Adams and Davis lifted him down, just as he was breathing his last. It happened that a number of teams were passing at the time and he was soon taken to his home. His funeral will take place this morning at 10 o'clock. He leaves six children, three sons and one daughter married and two daughters at home. He was 75 years old.
