Lowell L. Picklesimer, 76, of Milford Center died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at the OSU hospitals. A retired accountant, he was a longtime employee of the Ohio Grain Company in Milford Center and had retired from the Prospect Farmers Exchange in Prospect. He was also retired after 25 years as a volunteer on the Union Township Fire Department. He was a member of Mount Carmel Friends Church, a former clerk for the and village of Milford Center and treasurer for the Fairbanks Summer Little League Baseball Association.
Through his church, he belonged to the Men of Vision and Friends Disaster Service which built homes for victims of tragedies around the world. He was a man of faith who was generous with his time to help others who were less fortunate. He was content with life and had a wonderful sense of humor, always ready to pass on a joke. His jolly personality was exhibited in the years he played Santa Claus and his pleasure in giving was shown by surprising young children in his church with a 50-cent piece on their birthdays. He had a great outlook of life and never met a stranger. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, puttering around his vegetable garden, planting cabbage in flowerbeds, playing euchre and serenading on his harmonica. Dedicated to his family, he was always ready to play marbles with his grandchildren, go fishing with anyone who wanted to go or have a good time traveling and camping with them.
He was born March 23, 1927, in Mechanicsburg to the late Challie and Suna Mae Lemaster Picklesimer and was predeceased by a brother, Willis. He married Dorothy M. Cushman Sept. 11, 1949, in Beloit and she died Dec. 2, 2002. He is survived by his second wife, Jean Fleenor whom he married July 31, 2003; children, David M. (Kathy) Picklesimer of Milford Center, Mary Lynn (Steven)Strausbaugh of Irwin and Susie M. (John) Gamble and John L. "JP" (Jennifer) Picklesimer of Marysville; three stepsons, Rick (Connie) Esch and Michael (Melissa) Esch of West Liberty and Terry (Lisa) Esch of Huntsville; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step- grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two brothers,
James (Jean) Picklesimer of Florida and Max (Marilyn) Picklesimer of Upper Sandusky; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Picklesimer of Galloway.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Carmel Friends Church near Cable. The Rev. Tom Showalter will officiate and burial will be at the Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center. Friends may call today from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be the deceased's seven grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made to the church of the Union Township Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
