BRIDGEWATER The funeral for the Rev. Earl McKinley Bowman, 89, of Bridgewater will be held 2:30 p.m. today at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.

The service will be conducted by the Revs. Wayne Judd and Galen Crist, and burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery at Bridgewater.

Mr. Bowman, a retired Church of the Brethren minister, died Monday at the Bridgewater Home. He had been in failing health several years and had been a patient at the home since Feb. 3, 1982.

Before entering the home, Mr. Bowman lived at 112 W. Rainbow Drive, Bridgewater.

He was born in Johnson City, Tenn., Nov. 23, 1896, and was a son of the late John P. and Tennie E. Garst Bowman.

He had been pastor of the First Church of the Brethren in Harrisonburg. Mr. Bowman also had served churches in Washington, D.C., Roanoke, Lititz, Pa., and Dayton and Toledo, Ohio.

He had been a member of the Church of the Brethren's General Boards 12 years and was chairman of the Commission on Ministry and Home Missions five years.

Mr. Bowman had been moderator of five district conferences and had been a member of the Standing Committee six years.

He was a member of the District Board of Northern Virginia and the Southeastern Regional Board many years, and also had represented the Church of the Brethren on the executive board of the Virginia Council of Churches 10 years.

Mr. Bowman was married twice. On Nov. 21, 1919, he married Leah Frances Miller Bowman, who died Oct. 11, 1965. On March 19, 1967, he was married to Reah [Rhea] Wampler Miller Bowman, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Ann Bloom of Elkhart, Ind.; three stepsons, Glen Miller of Springfield, Ted Miller of Kissimmee, Fla., and Bob Miller of Castleberry, Fla.; two sisters, Mabel Price and Katherine Riech, both of Detroit, Mich.; a grandchild; six step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

The body is at the McMullen Bridgewater Funeral Home, where friends may call.
