- At the residence, the Manse, McLean Street, Woodville, on May 8th, Helen Douglas, dearly beloved wife of the Rev Robert Gardner. At Rest.

Mrs Robert Gardner of Woodville
The death occurred at the Manse, Woodville, yesterday afternoon of Mrs Garnder, wife of Rev R. Gardner, after a long illness, The late Mrs Gardner was born in Otago(sic) and came to Woodville with her husband and family over 20 years ago. Although of a retiring nature, she was a much loved member of the community, presiding over the Manse in a gracious manner and ably assisting her husband in his ministry. Woodville is the poorer for her passing. She is survived by her husband, Six daughters - Mesdames Hall, Gisborne, Waugh, Havelock North, J. Turnbull, Martinborough, Christiansen, Waipukurau, D. McGregor, Woodville and J. Little, Kumeroa and two sons - Mrs R. Gardner, master of a coastal vessel in Australia and Mr J. Gardner, of Hastings. One son, Tom, made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War. It is a sad circumstance that yesterday was the anniversary of his death. The sympathy of many sincere friends will go out to Rev Mr Gardner and members of the family in their loss.
