On August 11,1862 he married Ellen Anna Logtu. Five children were born to this family: Ole, Jonas, and Karen. Two other children died in infancy.
In 1873 George immigrated alone to America to find a place for his wife and three children.
He settled first near Hesper, Iowa, then in 1877 his wife and children immigrated. After several moves, he purchased a farm seven miles west of Caledonia, Minnesota on Beaver Ridge. In 1906 he sold the farm to his son Jonas reserving the right for himself and family to live there the rest of their lives.
